Ingredients:

  • 250g of ground beef
  • 100g of cheddar cheese, grated
  • 200g of puff pastry
  • 1 medium onion, finely chopped
  • 1 clove of garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon of olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon of dried oregano
  • Salt to taste
  • Pepper to taste
  • 1 egg, beaten for egg wash

Kitchen Tools Needed:

  • Oven
  • Baking dish
  • Knife
  • Cutting board
  • Mixing bowl
  • Rolling pin

Instructions:

  • Preheat the oven to 200°C (392°F).
  • In a skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and minced garlic, sauté until translucent.
  • Add the ground beef, breaking it apart with a spoon. Cook until browned. Season with oregano, salt, and pepper.
  • Once cooked, remove from heat and let it cool slightly. Stir in half of the grated cheddar cheese.
  • Roll out the puff pastry on a floured surface until it's about 3mm thick. Cut it into strips about 2cm wide for the lattice top.
  • In a baking dish, spread the beef and cheese mixture evenly. Top with the remaining grated cheddar cheese.
  • Create a lattice pattern on top by weaving the pastry strips over the filling.
  • Brush the pastry lattice with the beaten egg to give it a golden color while baking.
  • Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until the pastry is golden brown and cooked through.
  • Once done, remove from the oven and let it cool for a few minutes before serving.
